Veadista Consortium — Veadista - Remote monitoring and smart alert

VEADISTA project targets remote monitoring of frail persons. This monitoring includes the plotting of vital signs, their analysis and generating alerts. The public concerned is elderly people and people to be monitored in the context of home care. Sensors are integrated in a unique device to be applied on the skin like a peel-and-stick patch. Sensors are printed on a flexible substrate and combined with a battery-less RFID transponder. The acceptability of the patient is higher for such a device with a small volume (reduces size, no wire…). RFID readers communicate with a central device (like a set-top box). This one processes the data analysis and manages in-situ diagnosis in order to determine if the person is in an emergency of a dangerous situation. (Cardiovascular disease, sudden rise of temperature, etc.) An alert report is generated if necessary. The report is automatically sent through a secure communication channel towards an entity in charge of collecting alerts. The operator that handles the alert can access to the report, including conditions that have motivated the alert and the vital signs values. Patient treatment can be followed up by generation of periodic reports or on demand. The patient authentication allows the operator as soon as the alert is received to inform the rescue services while providing the patient identity. With the signed report the rescue services can justify an emergency situation. The patient authentication relies on a strong authentication peripheral belonging to individual persons and connected to the central system. The peripheral embeds cryptographic keys and is able to process signatures from a Near Field Communication. During home visits, physicians can consult those reports and vital signs. They are authorized to access them after being authenticated by the strong authentication peripheral using the French e-health Professional Cards (CPS).
